Access to Justice - A Legal Design Hackathon (Auckland)

Details
Participate in Legal Hackers NZ’s first Legal Design Hackathon. Over two days learn legal design skills, collaborate and help solve real-life justice problems by applying design methods to law. The focus of the hackathon is about exploring access to justice issues relevant to the South Auckland community.

Legal Design is the deliberate process of introducing design thinking into the development of legal procedures and legal advice. A hackathon is a facilitated weekend where people from different skillsets and perspectives come together in cross-disciplinary teams and explore minimal solutions for an identified challenge. Lawyers, law students, community organisations, public servants, User-Experience designers, programmers and members of the South Auckland community all should attend.
You will work on a real solution to a legal issue throughout the weekend, and at the close, on Sunday afternoon, a winning team will be picked by the audience. Often these solutions go on to become real projects. Even when they don’t, you will be mentored through the whole process and learn a LOT throughout the weekend.
We hope that connections made over the weekend spur many fruitful conversations about Legal Design. We aim to support the growth of a Legal Design community and teaching at our institutions.
You will need to be available for most of the weekend. If this is an issue for you, but you are keen to participate, please contact us and let us see if we can assist. For example, if you need assistance with childcare, we may be able to help.
There is no cost of entry. We will be providing meals on Saturday and Sunday. It does, however, cost to put this event on and we have limited places. If you’ve booked and later discover you can’t attend, please let us know so someone else can participate. You will be charged an $80 catering fee if you fail to attend without advising us at least three days before the event. We don’t want that to happen, so please make sure you withdraw if you can’t attend!
More details on the event will be made available at the Legal Hackers website (https://legalhackers.nz).
The Michael and Suzanne Borrin Foundation are kindly sponsoring this event, and AUT is sponsoring the venue.
