Intro to Programming - Edinburgh

Details

Due to the success of our Glasgow “Intro to Programming” event last month, we are bringing this FREE event to Edinburgh!

Whilst aimed at law students and legal professionals, it is open to all members of the Legal Hackers Scotland community. You can expect a brief introduction to the principles of programming and to build your first program.

No previous experience in programming is required. We will be using https://www.pythonanywhere.com , so you can program directly in your web browser without installing anything. It will save time if you make a free beginner's account beforehand (it will only take 2 minutes).

Guest Speaker

We are thrilled to have Prof. Daniel Katz - http://www.danielmartinkatz.com/about/ - join us for this event via live linkup to Chicago. He teaches at Chicago-Kent College of Law where he spearheads new initiatives to teach law students how to leverage technology and entrepreneurship in their future legal careers.

Prof. Katz is also actively involved in the burgeoning legal tech industry (https://angel.co/companies?markets%5B%5D=Legal). He is the Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer of LexPredict (http://lexpredict.com/) (a Legal Analytics company). He also serves as a formal and informal advisor to a large number of legal startups. In addition, he is a member of the advisory board of NextLaw Labs (http://www.nextlawlabs.com/) - a global collaborative innovation ecosystem organised with Dentons (http://www.dentons.com/) (the world’s largest law firm).

Prof. Katz is a much sought after speaker and author. His work has been published in numerous legal journals and featured in a number of media outlets, including the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Wired, Vox, National Public Radio, Slate Magazine, Huffington Post, 538, Bloomberg Businessweek, ABA Journal, Law Technology News and The American Lawyer.

In 2013, Prof. Katz was named a Legal Rebel by the ABA Journal and received a Fastcase 50 award, recognising him as one of "50 of the smartest, most courageous innovators, techies, visionaries and leaders in the law." In 2014, he was named to the external affiliated faculty at CodeX-Stanford Center for Legal Informatics.
