Let's break it to several areas:

  • Getting there.
  • Campsite.
  • What to do.

Transportation

TO AVALON

You will need to choose a time of your ride there and back. Will be around $70 round trip. But does vary.

One thing to think about is parking. IF you drive to the port/dock . . . it will be expensive parking. I suggest you park at a less expensive lot that is near. Or even free street parking in the residential area that is closest . . .THEN take an uber for the last bit. OR Take and uber from home to the port.

The ride there.

THEN . . . you get to Catalina.

Our site is Hermit Gulch in Avalon. We have the Group Site. It fits 60. We will have maybe 20 or so. We do have space if needed. It is a 1 mile walk OR you can take the bus for $2. Walk up two blocks to Tremont street and take the Wrigley line https://www.lovecatalina.com/listing/avalon-transit-public-bus/139/
Carry your stuff on the bus. OR . . . you can get a carry service https://avalonbaggageclaim.com $7 per bag. This has photos of the signs with prices. https://www.yelp.com/biz/avalon-blue-line-baggage-avalon

ADD ONS . . . . Bikes are allowed on the boat, including electric bikes. They are $12 charge to bring them that can be added onto your reservation or purchased the morning of your trip at check in.

IF you bring a bike you can use it to get all around in town. There are Bike Rentals in Avalon for $50 a day.

BUT . . . if you bring a bike . . .TO GO ON TRAILS . . you need to get a permit https://www.catalinaconservancy.org/index.php?s=visit&p=biking or https://guestservices.catalinaconservancy.org/eCommerce/ItemList.aspx?node_id=31876
$35 for one person for a year permit. You can take care of the permit there. If you rent a bike . . . still need a $35 permit to go on trails

Food: I will provide campfire wood and charcoal and propane stove to use.
I suggest you buy food to cook there instead of taking it on boat. There is a Vons https://local.vons.com/ca/avalon/240-sumner-ave.html
So you can buy to cook OR you can buy already cooked from the Deli area. It's a full service regular grocery store. You can get away with less or no cooking due to this.

What to bring? You bring tent, bag, and a weekend's worth of clothes. Keep it as small as possible. Since food you are buying there, and you do not need stove or wood that will save LOTS of space.

What is there to do in Catalina? Hikes, nature, beach, zip-line, glass bottom boat, snorkeling, kayak,
Catalina has TONS to do. The biggie will be hiking or biking the island.
