Byers Peak 3-Summit Loop

Just beyond Winter Park, there are three peaks along a ridge that stand proud. The highest, Byers Peak at 12,816ft, is instantly recognizable from much of the Grand County expanse. Throw in Bills Peak, Bottle Peak, and Lake Evelyn on the west side, and you've got a near perfect loop of 15+ miles and over 5,000 ft of gain. I can't think of a better way to spend a day on a weekend in the effective autumn. Join me!

We can meet at Wooly and carpool from there. The trailhead is about 1.5 hours, so figure a hiking start just after 7:30am. Assuming the cars can make it up Byers Peak Rd (I'll check on surface conditions and update as required), we'll have a steep but short trail to get up onto Byers' north ridge. There are bits of Class 2 up to the summit and beyond it to Bills Peak. Then a more frequently traveled trail takes us down Bills' north ridge to Lake Evelyn, and proper trail descends all the way down to the Lake Evelyn trailhead. From there it's a steep 1,500 ft climb directly to the summit of Bottle before we make our way back down the initial ascent. Bring lots of calories for this one!
