Monthly Club Meeting - Bike Law & Safety Presentation
Details
Piscitello Law Bicycle Advocates will visit with us on May 27 and present Bike Law & Safety Talk which will give LVCC cyclists a clear, practical understanding of why crashes happen and how riders can better protect themselves on the road.
The presentation explains the science behind inattentional blindness—why drivers often fail to see cyclists even when they’re directly in front of them—and examines the behaviors that lead some motorists to harass or endanger riders. It then walks through the most common crash types in Pennsylvania, including right hooks, left hooks, buzzing, dooring, and collisions caused by
distracted driving, pairing each with concrete risk-reduction strategies and the specific PA
statutes that protect cyclists.
The session also equips riders with essential knowledge about what to do after a crash and how insurance really works for cyclists. Attendees will learn the key components of a liability claim, why uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is the single most important protection a cyclist
can carry, and what options exist for riders without auto insurance. The talk closes with a look at 2026 legislative priorities—such as parking-protected bike lanes, automated speed enforcement, and hit-and-run protections—highlighting how legal advocacy and community engagement can make Pennsylvania’s roads safer for everyone who rides.
**Bonus assignment before the talk:
Check your Auto Policy to see if you carry Un-insurance and under-insurance – and whether you have “stacking” for multiple cars.
Our Monthly Club Meetings are open to ALL club members. Please RSVP so that we will have an idea of expected attendance.
A short business meeting - with optional attendance - will follow the presentation and discussion.
