The Future of Mating and Marriage – A Humanist Perspective

Lehigh Valley Humanists announce that our monthly speaker for September is our Board Member Jim Palmquist. We might be suspicious of what Jim has to say because he has a criminal record. Maybe he will tell us about that too at this event. Fortunately the talk does not cover Jim’s ideas.

Our topic today comes from an interesting talk by Darrel Ray, Ed.D. at the American Humanist Association Annual Conference in Chicago in June.
• Something is changing globally in our mating strategies and it is happening fast – 40 years or less.
• Dating app algorithms may have a preference to keep you swiping so they get more business. They may effectively be designed to keep you single. Just keep swiping and make money for the apps.
• As Humanists, we have a rare opportunity — free from religious dogma — to reimagine love based on consent, autonomy, and mutual support.
• What is said today may not be directly relevant to you if you are fortunate enough to be in a great relationship, but it will affect your children, grandchildren and our entire community.

We meet at Between the Lines Studio Theatre, 725 N. 15th St., Allentown. Free parking is in the lot directly across from the theatre entrance on Green St.
Note: the theater is the two-story building attached to the east side/rear side of the larger three-story building at 725 N 15th St. Facing the building from the parking lot on Green St, it is to the right. Look for the picture window and the ramp.
Social time will be from 10:30 to 11 AM with the talk starting soon after opening remarks.
