Online Game Night and Discussion (Empathy)
Details
Join like-minded secular humanists for an online sharing of friendly, thoughtful conversation and interactive gaming over zoom video.
The Zoom link will appear in the Meetup event once you have RSVPd. We request everyone participating share video to encourage a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. Thank you and see you there!
We open up our conversation with friendly banter about our lives, like movies we've watched and whatever is going on in the world.
Then we will have an informal discussion related to the Secular Humanist 10 Commitments. For March we will share our thoughts on the third commitment, Empathy. What does this concept mean to you and how do you integrate it into your life?
After the discussion our usual game line up will include Jackbox Party Games: Murder Trivia, Quiplash and other party games (for this you will need a second device : a smartphone or tablet with an internet browser in addition to the device you use to run Zoom)
Empathy
“I will consider other people’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences.”
Empathy means entering imaginatively into another’s situation in an attempt to understand their experience as though we are experiencing it ourselves. Empathy requires us to step outside of our own perspective to consider someone else’s thoughts, feelings, or circumstance from that person’s point of view. In many ways, empathy is the first step to ethical behavior as it allows us to respond compassionately to the suffering of others and exercise good judgment when our actions may affect someone else. Understanding another’s perspective is not only critical to building better relationships, but also makes us better citizens in our local and global communities. Empathy promotes tolerance, consideration, and compassion amongst us all.
