Come head to The Exchange Bar on 50 Rutland St (LE1 1RD) for a relaxed chess meetup, you could know the ins and outs of the Sicilian Dragon or the King's Indian, or maybe you just know how the horsey moves.
This isn’t a serious tournament. It’s all about:
1 . Meeting new people
2. Playing a few casual games
3. Having a drink and a laugh between moves
No pressure, no clocks, no stress, just some good vibes, a few blunders where you didn't see you were staring directly down the barrel of the Queen, and maybe the occasional “I definitely meant to do that” moment.

- Total beginners
- Rusty players getting back into it
- Confident players who don’t mind going easy… or showing off a little
The event is hosted by The Exchange Bar so please respect the bar and chess pieces and try to buy something while you're there.
Come solo or bring a friend — either way, you’ll have someone to play.
We’ll grab a table, set up some boards, and let the games unfold.
Worst case? You lose a game.
Best case? You win or at least impress someone across the board
