Come by our free sketching workshop at LCB Depot on Wednesday evening. We will give you a free sketchbook and access to art materials and pens to show us your views of Leicester and others who live in it through writing, sketching or collaging.

The workshop on Wednesday 15th from 5.30 to 7 pm will involve us telling participants about the project and why we started it over some free drinks in the LCB Depot cafe and an introduction to sketchbooking. We will have local artist and drawing expert Chris Wright introduce people to the basics of sketching, how to make marks, and work with participants through an exercise that will get them to draw their favourite place in Leicester in an easy and fun way (I won't give spoilers here, but it draws from the way he teaches sketching at The Drawing Centre). We have planned for a way to do this that will enable people with different levels of skill to learn and get expert tips and we will also allow people to just collage or write if they prefer to do that instead and have materials to that effect. Above all, it will be an opportunity to connect with others in the city and share perspectives on what different people like about it but also how to improve it.

The Leicester Citizen Sketchbook project will create the first and largest library of anonymous sketches and views from every corner of Leicester, as part of the city’s most ambitious citizen science project to date. The project changes the way people share their outlook on Leicester, share their experiences with others, while also creating a community resource and snapshot at one point in time.
