Market Harborough walk - Foxton Locks / Grand Union canal

Details

An easy walk* of 10 to 12 miles, out to Foxton Locks across the countryside and back along the Grand Union canal.

The route starts at Market Harborough railway station and takes us through Harborough along the river through Welland Park, then follows an old railway to the village of Lubbenham where we skirt Mill Hill to climb gradually to the Grand Union Canal at Foxton Locks.

Soft drinks, beer and snacks are available at the lovely Bridge 61 pub.

The route then returns to Market Harborough through countryside along the towpath where we end up at Canal Street basin.

A short walk through the town takes us to real ale pub The Beer House, a short distance from our finish back at Market Harborough railway station.

Meet:
- 11 am Market Harborough railway station
- Estimated finish time 4pm

Ample parking is available at the station for those wishing to drive (if the barrier is broken it may even be free).

The terrain is not especially demanding but there are some paths across fields which may be uneven in places. Walking shoes are recommended.

* an easy walk of 10 to 12 miles - that's according to James from Market Harborough (he will lead this walk).
