Croydon Photography Forum with Alan McFarlane

Our guest speaker at the next Croydon Photography Forum is one of our very own.

Alan McFarlane has been part of the Lenses of Croydon community for many years, and if you know Alan, you will know that photography is rarely very far away.
In fact, Alan is one of those people you half expect to have been born with a camera in his hand.

A confessed techie, he is rarely without one. If it is not in his hand, there is probably another on his hip and something else tucked away in a backpack, just in case. Alan is always prepared, always watching and, more often than not, always shooting.

That readiness has taken him into an unusually wide range of spaces. Alongside his freelance work with corporate organisations, he photographs funerals and live performances across different genres of music, and has somehow found himself regularly second-shooting Asian weddings too.

At Tuesday’s Photography Forum, Alan will take us on a then-and-now journey through his work, exploring how his photography has evolved and what keeps those creative batteries fully charged.

For Alan, photography is not only about paid work. It can mean clearing his head and increasing his step count with some street photography, working with interesting people to create portraits, or simply having a reason to pick up a camera and see where it takes him.

Through it all, his enthusiasm for photography seems remarkably undiminished.

And if he ever claims he did not have the right equipment with him, we will know he is lying. We have seen the size of his camera bag.
