Let's meet Saturday, March 15, 2025: The Power of the Crone

Details
NOTE: This will be a joint meeting with the Lesbian Spiritual Book Group--Portland.
What a wonderful and rich discussion we had on February 22 when we discussed Reclaiming Quiet by Sarah Clarkson. Thank you so much to the 8 of us who logged onto Zoom and joined in, creating a very intimate discussion. The strength and commitment of this group makes it possible for us to connect deeply even online, and I so appreciate this remarkable group of women.
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 pm PDT. We will discuss The Power of the Crone: Myths and Stories of the Wise Woman Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. The book is not available at all in print but widely available in audiobook, narrated by the author. Please contact me if you need help locating or purchasing the book.
You are welcome whether you have read or listened to the book or not--the conversation will be rich and intimate regardless. Each time we are joined by some who have not read the book, and I think they can attest that our conversations start with the book and roam freely into the rest of our lives.
We have had a problem with uninvited disruptors. Please note that all members will be held in the waiting room and only admitted if they respond to messages or are known to us. All members must be willing to appear full face on screen throughout the meeting. If you have not RSVP'd, you will not be admitted if you are not known to the group.
About the book:
Entering the terrain of wisdom comes at any age. We sometimes step, sometimes stumble, and other times are pulled into the territory of the Crone when the need for a deeper, larger understanding of our most meaningful paths in life can no longer be denied, and when the gifts are hidden in our challenges must be brought forth.
About the author:
Clarissa Pinkola Estés, is an American poet, psychoanalyst and post-trauma specialist who was raised in now nearly vanished oral and ethnic traditions. She is a first-generation American who grew up in a rural village, population 600, near the Great Lakes.
Dr. C.P. Estés' is a lifelong activist in service of the voiceless; as a post-trauma recovery specialist and psychoanalyst of 48 years clinical practice with the persons traumatized by war, exilos and torture victims; and as a journalist covering stories of human suffering and hope.
She is Mestiza Latina [Native American/ Mexica Spanish], presently in her seventies. She grew up in the now vanished oral tradition of her war-torn immigrant, refugee families who could not read nor write, or did so haltingly, and for whom English was their third language overlying their ancient natal languages. As an older child she was adopted into an immigrant and refugee family of majority Magyar and minority Danau Swabian tribal people. Her families could not read or write, or did so haltingly. But they were wise in the ways of nature, planting, animals, making everything from scratch, from shoes to songs.
Thus she was raised immersed in the oral tradition of old mythos and stories, songs and chants, dances and ancient healing ways.
Her writing is deeply influenced by her family people who were hands-on farmers, shepherds, hopsmeisters, wheelwrights, weavers, orchardists, tailors, cabinet makers, lacemakers, knitters, horsemen and horsewomen from their Old Countries.
