In celebration of Women's History Month, let's get together and discuss one of Minneapolis's claims to fame! Once upon a time, this place was a hotbed for feminism, and it was at the forefront in fighting violence against women.

In 1983, Catherine McKinnon and Andrea Dworkin were contracted by the City of Minneapolis to propose a modification to their civil rights ordinance to allow people harmed by pornography to bring suit against the perpetrators. Although it never went into effect, it was an innovative approach to a pernicious problem, and the testimony collected during the hearings was irrefutable.

Erika W., who will be hosting this event, will put some articles about the ordinance in the chat, but feel free to bring your own Minneapolis (or other) women's history stories to share.

Erika W. reserved the Isles conference room from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Walker Library, 2880 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis MN 55408. Parking is free in the garage. Announcements about the library closing will start at 7:30pm.

This event is limited to 9 attendees. If the event is full, sign up on the waiting list. There are often times cancellations at the last minute that allow the attendance for the next members on the waiting list.

All our meetups have a minimum of 5 in order to run. Please change your RSVP if you are not able to make it for any reason.
