MIRIx: Understanding causal decision theory
Details
Continuing the decision theory thread...
Last time we introduced decision theory, and briefly mentioned causal decision theory. It has some flaws, but it's worth getting a good understanding, for two reasons. Firstly, with a better understanding of CDT it becomes clearer when and why it sometimes seems to give the wrong answer. And secondly, the decision theories that MIRI prefers (such as UDT), are in some sense based on it and use similar concepts.
As always with the MIRIx series, there will be math, and a more structured format than the usual Less Wrongs.
Hope to see you there! I'll post links to reading material soon.
