'A warm, human and accessible take - more than a dash of Blackadder!' The Stage
This summer one of Shakespeare's best known plays comes to the Globe.
Join us this evening for MEASURE FOR MEASURE, a telling look at the battle between vice and virtue.
Shakespeare's much admired comedy dwells on the hypocrisy and corruption of power.
The play becomes even more potent realising the Vienna setting is a thin disguise for Shakespeare’s Jacobean London.

Experience the play in the time-honoured manner - standing in the yard and let this play transport you back in time, as close as we can get to the experience of Elizabethan playgoing.
There are several explicit references to the bear baiting pits and brothels in this classic drama, the rather sordid businesses and pastimes that would have surrounded the original Globe Theatre!

Complete with its thrust stage, the Globe offers London's most unique theatregoing experience.
This is the last play to be directed here by Dominic Dromgoole, Globe Artistic Director, and he's assembled a great cast. Judging by the reviews, you can book this for one of your best nights this summer!
'A production that gives us light as well as shade...Dromgoole’s production really sings' Time Out

MEMBER GROUNDLINGS
http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/d/d/e/d/600_438116813.jpeg
As groundlings in the yard, you'll find the atmosphere for these productions is electric. You can stand literally inches from the stage. At our last visit, two groundlings from our group were even invited onto the stage, and as a member of the standing crowd, you become a key part of the staging.
Comments from members in the yard:
'Outstanding performance… such an amazing night. Truly startled to be pulled up on stage by an off-the-wall but amazingly funny actor. Must be a new approach!'
'Excellent show. Looking forward to returning to the Globe again.'
'Amazing night'
'It was such a great show - hope to see you all next time.'
'Loved every minute of it!'

Vincentio, Duke of Vienna, disgusted by the immorality in his city, announces his withdrawal from public life and leaves the puritanical Angelo in charge.
Angelo, in his zeal for observing the letter of the law, begins a ruthless programme to stamp out sexual licence, in the course of which he condemns one Claudio to death.
Surely Claudio’s virginal sister Isabella, a novice nun seeking mercy for her brother, could not awake the lust of this cold, censorious man?

THE GLOBE

Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse in the London Borough of Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames that was originally built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. The modern reconstruction is an academic approximation based on available evidence of the 1599 and 1614 buildings. It was built about 230 metres (750 ft) from the site of the original theatre and opened to the public in 1997, with a production of Henry V.
