Let’s Get Together!

We operate one of San Antonio’s largest food pantries, serving around 350 families weekly (except Thanksgiving when we serve up to 500). Each distribution includes a variety of food items. Clients register and sign in beginning at 8 am and food distribution starts around 11 am each Thursday. Volunteers are needed from 9am-2pm in roles like sorting food items, cart pushers, baggers, registration assistants, and parking attendants.

The SA Food Bank fights hunger by delivering a big truck of food to Windcrest United Methodist Church and volunteers (us) bag it up and distribute to 200 - 250 families. Come help our cause and truly make a difference in this community.

Volunteers assist by:
Packing groceries for distribution
Loading groceries into cars/trucks
Interact with those waiting in line

You must be at least 12 years old to volunteer for this event a pre-orientation is not required to volunteer.
When you arrive, sign in, introduce yourselves to each other and wait for the person in charge to come out and brief everyone. She will explain the entire process, what will be needed from you and where your help is needed the most!

Wear comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, hat/cap (if you wear one) and a pair of light gloves (plastic gloves work). Water and light snacks will be provided. We will be working outside, a lot of standing and bending over but no heavy lifting. Take a couple of pictures if you can, post them, but MOSTLY have fun! 😎

This food distribution is to help the community of (and around) the Los Angeles Heights Presbyterian Church - they need volunteers!
This is a Saturday event.
The Food Bank truck is scheduled to arrive around 7 AM - if you can be there between 6:30 and 7 AM to help set-up the tents, tables, signs, etc. that would be great but please be there by 7:00. The plan is to feed 200 families starting around 8:30 - 9:00 ending at 11 AM or until the food runs out. If you can only help for an hour or two - we need the most help from 7 to 9 AM. Below as a breakdown of how we hope the morning will go, but please be flexible!

Set-up starts 6:30 AM
Set-up tents, tables, chairs, and help where needed.
Truck should arrive - driver will unload the truck 7 to 7:15 AM.
Divide food into 150-200 bags
Load food into cars - 9 to 11 AM
End of day - 11 to 11:30
Take down tents, tables, chairs, dispose of all trash.
