Purpose: To meet similar people who share your design for something completely different.
We may not know each other, but I bet we share a few stubborn, consequential habits: at shows, we’re the last to applaud—and the last to stop. Our inattention to “music” and etiquette sometimes works against us, then in our favor.
What I’m saying is: we all have tastes that feel uniquely ours. You’re not alone. We won’t like everything—and that’s the point. This group exists because we don’t like everything. Lively, low-stakes debate is part of what makes being a fan of music, art, and being human worthwhile. Sisyphus wouldn’t have it so bad if he could whistle while he worked; the horror is that he can’t idle. Music is release. But when it’s too bound to our daily grind, it becomes catheter, not catharsis.
