Humane Lobby Week Prep Webinar!

Hope everyone is well and staying safe!
This is Pennsylvania’s first year to conduct a virtual humane lobby event. Let’s show ‘em how it’s done!

The Humane Lobby Week (HLW) webinar hosted by Senator Roy Afflerbach, Ret. and Pennsylvania State Director, Kristen Tullo, provides an overview of our top priority bills, explains the scheduling of appointments with legislators, and assists you in practicing Zoom technology. Constituents will be scheduling their own appointments to “meet” (via telephone, face time, Zoom, etc.) with legislators during the week from Oct 5 – 9.

You won’t want to miss a rehearsal “meeting” with Rep. Melissa Shusterman who will be online to help us show how advocacy meetings really work. And Rep. Frank Farry and his civic-minded pup, Bulmers, will join us to discuss the power of advocacy. Because of the new format for HLW we encourage newer and more seasoned advocates to attend.

Our objectives remain the same: lobby legislators to support animal protection bills and increase the numbers of our advocacy groups. The nature of our virtual event presents some changes and challenges, but we have plans in place to ease concerns and make things run smoothly. Actually, the online aspect of the event may facilitate more participation by eliminating obstacles such as distance and timing. Basically, it should be easier for new people to attend!

Fun for this year: We’ll ask constituents to share a photo of them (and their pet) while talking with their legislators and post it on social media with the hashtag #PaHLW. Those not on social media can email their photo to pennsylvania@huamnesociety.org, and we’ll post it for them.
