Summer Solstice: Where Spirit and Soul Meet
Details
A women’s retreat with special guest Lanette Vawter
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting for their light
For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
---Wendell Berry, The Peace of Wild Things
Join us as we celebrate the Summer Solstice and welcome the longest day of the year together.
As we move from spring to summer, we will explore the seasons and cycles of Soul and Spirit which are often used interchangeably in our modern lives but are actually unique ways of describing different aspects of our human experience and how it connects with the depth and breadth of God’s love. Our souls nurture our very beings like seeds cocooned in the dark earth until they are ready to sprout. Our spirits soar to the heights of the mountains and beyond as we experience the inspiration of God’s spirit meeting our own divine spark.
During this Solstice weekend we will explore the movement of Soul and Spirit through meaningful conversations, spiritual practices, poetry, nature walks, delicious food and creative activities. We will keep coming back to the question, how do Soul and Spirit work within each one of us?

Our Guests:
Lanette Vawter is an Elder in Community of Christ, a Spiritual Director and Director of Leadership Development for Community of Christ in Canada. In her Spiritual Direction practice, Lanette is drawn to the deep work of helping people listen for the movement of both soul and spirit in their lives as they navigate grief. Her approach is shaped in part by her own journey following the death of one of her children in 2011. Away from work, Lanette keeps herself grounded and curious by studying the Enneagram, practicing meditation, reading, and expressing herself through art.
Vickie MacArthur - With a lifetime practice of yoga and meditation, Vickie’s ministry focuses on the healing connection between body, mind, and heart, both in her teaching and calling as a spiritual companion. Rooted in her Christian, Buddhist, and yogic communities, Vickie walks an inter-spiritual path that honors the depth of all traditions, while seeking to build bridges of shared experience, and envisioning new communities beyond the confines of conventional religion.
