Pay As you Feel Donation

Hi everyone 💛

As we have hinted previously we are now asking members to make a half yearly/yearly contribution towards the running and administration of the Meetup group.( not this page ).

We have decided that the easiest way to do this is a PAY AS YOU FEEL DONATION and in order to contribute we have set up 3 'events' on Meetup during September.

You wont be able to book onto these events and you dont need to, but you should be able to see the information.

Once we get to 10th September 2025 we will add the links (Collectif) to the event and you can pay your donation securely by debit/credit card. If you miss the first one, there are 2 more events set up which take us to October (when we pay the fees)

Why are we having to do this?

FYI Meetup were acquired in Jan '24 by a technology company called "Bending Spoons" based in Italy. As a result, they have invested heavily e.g. improving the functionality/ fixing bugs/ improving the ratings system and generally making Meetup more user friendly. To fund this investment they have doubled organiser fees and given organisers a "member dues" function so costs can be recouped.. This does however mean members must put their bank details into Meetup, which not everyone is comfortable with. It also means that anyone who does not pay, is removed from the site. ( which we dont want to happen)..

In Leeds (where I live) we've seen numerous other groups charge £5-£20 per year to costs can be met.. About 50% of meetup groups in Leeds have closed as a result of the changes.
We certainly dont want to close the Scarborough platform nor do we want to take on Meetups way of gathering payments. Hence we are trying something different

Instead of members paying Meetup direct we are setting up a payment link which comes strait to myself and Randy which coincides with Meetup Dues. Its a Pay As You Feel contribution. ( up to you if you pay or dont pay)

This flexibility of a PAY AS YOU FEEL means the platform can operate pretty much as normal, regardless of whether you pay or not, no one gets removed. We are in control not Meetup●

As its a PAY AS YOU FEEL its up to you what you donate (however, we are suggesting a contribution between £3 to £10 depending on how much you use / rely on the platform) Helping us pay back costs that we perolsonally pay to Meetup will allow us to carry on running this fantastic platform in a way we all benefit from and if funds exceed costs we will lo9k to payback money into the group ( I.e putting on welcome drinks at Xmas Party for eg) 🤶🎄
