Hike at the Kalmthout Heath (22 km)

Details

Dear Hikers,

Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!

This Saturday I'm planning a hike on the Kalmthout Heath (in Dutch: Kalmthoutse Heide), one of the oldest and largest nature reserves in Flanders, and a popular destination for hiking. Especially with some 'snow leftovers' (who knows), it could look quite magical... :-)

Where and when do we meet?
We'll start our hike at the train station HEIDE in the morning at 10:15 and finish at the train station KALMTHOUT.

How to get there and which ticket do you need?
If you come by train from Brussels or Antwerp, you should buy a weekend ticket to Kalmthout (not to Heide!).

How long will the hike take?
The trail will be 22 km, and we'll be hiking at a +/- 4,5 km/h speed (not slow but not super fast either). Be thus prepared for about 5 hours of action! Mind you, we'll take a lunch break and have a couple of shorter stops, so if your general condition is ok, it should be doable without too much suffering! ;-)

What to bring and wear?
Sturdy hiking shoes will be essential. It could be muddy. Be prepared. Wear warm clothes, bring a hat, scarf and gloves. If it's sunny and there is still snow, sunglasses will be pleasant for your eyes.
Do bring lunch, water (at least 1,5 l) and some snacks.

If you have any questions, you can contact me via WhatsApp or write a comment below.

Please note that your participation is at your own risk; I won't be held responsable in case of an injury.

One last thing: please only sign up if you really have the intention to join, and cancel ASAP in case you can no longer attend!

Hope to see you on this or another hike in 2024! :-)
