Experience the best of Greenpoint, Brooklyn!
Come along with us as we explore the lovely and historic neighborhood of Greenpoint while getting some exercise.
This urban hike will take you on a stroll through the Greenpoint Historic District, to a park on the East River with breathtaking views of the NYC skyline, and through the Polish neighborhood. You will see historic homes and churches, a bustling area with cute shops, cafes, and restaurants and, get to learn all about the history of this area in Brooklyn. There are 2 food stops on the tour first at a traditional Polish bakery and later for some amazing pierogis!
HIGHLIGHTS:
· Greenpoint Historic District-homes and churches dating back to the 1800s
· Transmitter Park and views of the Manhattan skyline
· Waterfront history and view of converted 19th century warehouses
· History and insights from a local tour guide
· Tour of the Polish section with stops at a traditional bakery and pierogi shop
· Lovely shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars in the area
· Walk approx. 8,000 steps (4 miles)
LOGISTICS, TRANSPORTATION:
· Starting point: 66 Nassau St
Meet in front of the Starbucks at the corner of Nassau and Bedford. The closest subway lines are the G train to Nassau St or the L train to Bedford Ave (10 min walk)
Option: UBER/Lyft to our meet spot is quite convenient.
Look for your guide, Melissa, at the corner. If you have problems or questions you can call 917.676.5721.
· As a courtesy to the group, please cancel if your plans change - this will prevent the group from having to wait/worry for you.
· Please be at the meet location 10 minutes before start time - we will begin right on time. It is difficult to connect with you by phone/text once the hike is in motion. Subway travel is extra slow on the weekends and traffic is unpredictable, please allow extra travel time.
· The hike will end at the same location but, the guide will be happy to direct you to other places if you wish to continue to explore the area.
Trip Notes:
· Unvaccinated guests are required to wear a mask and maintain a safe social distance.
· The tours will go out in light rain, but we will cancel and provide a full refund if there is severe weather.
· Please wear comfortable walking shoes
· Bring a reusable water bottle, refills are available along the way.
· Restrooms are limited.
