What we’re about

September 2024 Update: I am mostly living in Cambridge MA through this academic year (until May 2025). I have no plans for MNOJ events until I return. Maybe something over the holidays. But this group is fully paid for and if any of you have a music event to promote, let me know. tim@musicnightonjupiter.com works best.

Hi, I am Tim Wolfson of Music Night On Jupiter. One of my favorite things to do is host traveling musicians and present them to friends old and new at house concerts in my barn-home located in Allison Park PA. But I also like (maybe prefer) to experience live music at house concerts organized and hosted by others. There are dozens of live music hosts in Western PA. I am aware of three other hosts within 5 miles of my place. Let's explore the music together!

There are several reasons why I prefer house concerts over music presented in commercial venues. For one, there is the opportunity to interact with the performers on a personal basis, often by sharing beverages or meals. For another, many live music hosts pass on to the performers more than 100% of the contributions collected from attendees. For that reason, house concerts typically pay much better than club shows of similar size. A third reason is getting to see the cool spaces music hosts use to present music - there are so many nice living rooms, barns, gardens, yards, etc., to visit. Finally, because home shows are more communal than commercial shows, I almost always make new friends. What's not to like about all that?
