Hike Cliff Cave Park and Celebrate it's French Connection to Mardi Gras/STL!
Details
Let's walk at Cliff Cave Park on Sunday, March 2nd,
with its French Connection to St. Louis History. Did you know.......
In the 18th century, French fur trappers used the cave as a beer cellar and ran a tavern for traders traveling the Mississippi River!
Meet at 1:20 PM, walk at 1:30. Park in the lower lot, nearest the main Park
Pavilion and restrooms.
Distance/Pace: Expect to walk about 2-4 miles. My pace is normally 2.5-3 MPH; however we will stop and regroup as often as necessary to keep the group together.
We will be walking the Mississippi Greenway Trail. First we will
walk a lower section of that trail for approx. two miles and then follow the trail up the hill and across the bridge to the Scenic Overlook.
Depending on your preference you can just walk the lower trail or walk the lower and upper trail for appoximately 3.5 to 4 miles total.
Bring: Water to drink along the way; wear sturdy tennis or hiking shoes and dress in layers for the weather which looks like it will be partly sunny
and in the mid forties. Check out the location if you have never been there before. Cliff Cave Road intersects Telegraph on the left side (East) as you travel South on Telegraph from Hwy 255. There is an upper parking lot but we will be going all the way down to the end of the road to the lower parking lot and large pavillion along the Mississippi River. If you have any questions, send me a message. If you can't make it, please be sure you cancel. We will try our best to leave promptly at 1:30.
Mississippi Greenway Trail: Portion of lower trail 2 miles and then 1.5 -2
additional miles on the trail going up to the scenic overlook.
This hike will be canceled by if we have inclement weather.
