Welcome to a night of AI, AGI, and Azure Data! On Monday, August 14, we are excited to have Emilie Lundblad presenting "Next Generation AI: AGI From LLMs to Multimodal LLMs" to us (online from Denmark) at 6:45 PM that evening. From 7:15 - 8:15 we'll have Jes Schultz from Microsoft presenting "Which Azure Database Option Should I Choose?". Jes lives in Louisville and will be presenting to us IN-PERSON in Lexington.

Emilie's Abstract: Basic intelligence is naturally multimodal, in that we understand the world through both sound, pictures and text, thus in order to move towards artificial general intelligence, multimodality is necessary. 

Large language models hold the key to how we think and communicate, therefore it can be used as the interface to other modalities, as long as other inputs whether image, video or audio can be transformed to text. Therefore, LLM holds great power when combined with other narrow AI models, an example being OpenAI’s LLM Davinci with Codex, to convert natural language to code, or ChatGPT now being able to understand both images and code, yet even more advanced models are already starting to emerge with Microsoft’s Kosmos-1 being able to understand several modalities such as text, image & video, as well as learn from the context and understand instructions. In this session we will look at the developments making it possible to go from LLM’s to MLLM’s, as well as look at the latest examples in field, ending with a discussion of what the future may look like.
Emilie's Bio: Emilie Lundblad is Microsoft Regional Director & MVP in data platforms, and nominated MVP for AI, she works as managing director for Amesto NextBridge in Denmark, in addition she is a national board member for the pioneer center for AI, the largest research collaboration in Nordics on AI. Emilie holds a master in quantitative finance & econometrics, as well as an minor in ML & AI from MIT, while she is right now finishing her master in IT management at ITU, writing her thesis on generative AI. Emilie has been taught and spoken about Microsoft Data & AI, at more then 50 events in the past 5 years and is now a keynote speaker at several large conferences in 2023.

Jes's Abstract: When you need a managed database in Azure, you're faced with a variety of choices. Is your data relational or not? Do you want SQL Database, PostgreSQL, or MySQL? What is Cosmos DB and why does it have five APIs? When should you use Azure Cache for Redis? Do all of these database options have the same compute and storage options? Do they provide the PaaS management tasks you want?
With a decade of Azure data experience behind me, let me guide you through the questions to ask to determine which Azure database to choose for your applications, so you can save time, money, and frustration in the long run.
Jes's Bio: Jes Schultz is a data nerd with a passion for community. She currently works as a Senior Program Manager for SQL Experiences at Microsoft, building the best user experiences for SQL. Her career started with SQL Server 2005 and has evolved as a DBA, performance consultant, and software engineer focusing on the Azure Data stack. When not being a data nerd, she loves drinking coffee, hiking, running long distances, and eating great food.
