Basin Mountain Hike at Berea Forest

Lace up your footwear and join Lexington Hiking for an weekend hike through the Berea Forest Trails!

This Berea Forest hike in Berea forest will go to the East Pinnacle and then on to Basin Mountain and back. The planned route is about 7 miles. Have the event listed as 3 hours and that will be the shortest time expected and the longest time expected is 4 hours. However toward the end is on option to add on an additional loop for anyone more adventurous.

With recent snowmelt and rain please be aware that some sections will likely be muddy and some section may be slippery. Take this into account on your RSVP and your footwear. Thank you!

I will have on a small camelback backpack and be wearing a hiking clothes!

This hike has a steep start and some up and down along the way.

Expect this will be about 3 to 3.5 hours and expect to take a short break at Basin Mountain for a snack. Will be 7.0 miles as predicted distance, but I have not measured the distance and total distance could be somewhat different.

Bring water for certain, and snacks if you desire.
Boots are likely preferred for most people due to it being a longer hike and potentially muddy, but I have seen plenty of people in tennis shoes and have used tennis shoes myself on hikes at Berea. Will be going be a bit of a scramble up/down in rocks in places - so something sturdy and good grip is recommended. Your choice and most shoes will work, but hope that description helps.

I would consider it medium pace (very approximately 2 miles an hour). But there are some steep parts and some scramble up rocks.

The group is does not function as a guide or offer any guaranteed assistance beyond planning the day, time and location to meet. How the pace and route work for you is your own responsibility. You will need to be responsible for your own health, water, safety and abilities. Thanks!
