New Years Day hike at Yahoo Falls in Big South Fork National Recreation Area

Join us for a New Year's Day hike at Big South Fork Recreation Area and Yahoo Falls! We will do a 10 mile loop, but there are options for less distance (car pool dependent).

Yahoo Falls is in the Big South Fork Recreation area. The falls may be running or may not but the area is interesting regardless. With the recent rain it adds chances for the falls to be running BUT it may be very muddy. Add in leaves and it might be extra slippery.

I will be shooting for a 10 mile loop that is about 2250 feet in elevation gain/loss over the 10 miles (route snapshot shown in the additional pictures). However, there is also a 5.2 mile option which is out and back to the falls and the arch (also shown in the additional pictures).

Car Pooling is a recommended option. Meetup does not have a good option for arranging carpooling. After you RSVP, send me a direct message telling me if you want to car pool and include your email address. I will start an email chain to coordinate possible car pooling.
Car pool location that seems good is Wendy's near I-75
(https://maps.app.goo.gl/qgZHjrm3svQbXVQZ9 - or 5365 Athens Boonesboro Rd, Lexington, KY 40509) in the parking lot between the Wendy's and MirchiMex). Car pool meet at 9am will allow time to get to the trail head by 11am.

This group does not allow pets for this hike. We love pets but it adds too much to the group management. Please leave your furred loved ones at home for the day.

Drive to the VERY end of the road for the targeted parking lot. It is very small and not many spots but the best place to park.
