AI × Decentralized Trust: Kickoff of the LFDT AI Working Group

AI is already in our pull requests — and agentic AI needs exactly what we build. Let's talk about both.

AI has already arrived in our repositories. It writes patches, reviews pull requests, and is often the first thing a newcomer asks about a codebase they don't understand yet. At the same time, agentic AI is arriving from the other direction — as a use case. Autonomous agents need identities they can prove, credentials others can verify, and a way to pay each other for the things they consume. That is our home turf.

LFDT has no shared position on either side of this yet. This meeting launches the LFDT AI Working Group and sets its scope together with the people who will do the work.

We will open three questions:

How do we use AI when building LFDT projects? What is allowed, what has to be disclosed, and what does it mean for provenance, licensing, DCO sign-off, and security review? The Linux Foundation's existing generative AI guidance is the floor — the question is what our projects need on top of it.

Can AI help us grow our communities? Review bots like CodeRabbit, automated triage of good first issues, and onboarding assistants promise a shorter path from first-time contributor to committer. Do they actually deliver that, or do they just add noise for maintainers to clean up? And if we want them, who runs them and who pays?

Where does our work connect to the AI world? Two neighbours at the Linux Foundation matter most: the Agentic AI Foundation (MCP, goose, AGENTS.md) and the x402 Foundation, which stewards payments over HTTP for agents. Agentic identity and agent-to-agent commerce are exactly where DLT belongs — and where LFDT projects should be visible.

This is a kickoff, not a keynote. Bring your opinions, your objections, and the problems you already have. We want to leave with an initial scope, a meeting cadence, and named volunteers for the first work streams.

Open to everyone: maintainers, contributors, TSC members, LFDT staff, and anyone from the wider Linux Foundation AI ecosystem. No prior involvement in LFDT required.
