Mahler: Symphony No.10 (arr. Barshai) @ RFH
Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre Belvedere Road SE1 8XX , The ticket desk inside, London, GB*Please purchase a ticket before marking your attendance - see below to book*
Join us at the Royal Festival Hall as Vladimir Jurowski conducts Rudolph Barshai's arrangement of Mahler's unfinished 10th Symphony.
In a continuation of performances of 'interesting' arrangements of works at the RFH (I previously attended a concert of Beethoven 9 arr. Mahler), here's Rudolf Barshai's rarely heard arrangement of Mahler 10.
Whilst I'm familiar with the Cooke/Matthews/Goldschmidt edition, I've never managed to hear this symphony live in any form. It is certainly up their with being one of my favourite Mahler symphonies, so I hope Barshai doesn't go too bonkers with his orchestration in this version!

SYNOPSIS
Boris Godunov has been crowned Tsar of Russia in a glittering coronation. But his path to power was bloody. As famines spark unrest, Boris becomes increasingly haunted by his role in the murder of the 9-year-old heir to the throne, Dmitry. Meanwhile, in neighbouring Poland, a young man spots an opportunity to seize power. With Russia in turmoil and his sanity unravelling, can Tsar Boris cling to power? Or will the ghosts of his past return to wreak revenge once and for all?

SOCIAL
After the show, we'll congregate in the Bow Street foyer next to the statue in the centre of the room before heading off for a drink, (probably at The Craft Beer Co on Endell Street - other drinks are available there!). Please note, depending on work I might only be able to stop for a quick pint - sadly there's no weekend or Friday night performances!
I will be providing updates in the comments section of this page on the day itself. I would recommend you download the Meetup app to your smartphones, so you can access these quickly & easily.4 attendees
