This free classical music performance covers the Italian baroque context of Handel when he moved to Italy. There is also music by Handel and Buxtehude, for the lovers of Danish and Anglo-German music ;-)

This musical programme imagines the young Handel in Italy, newly arrived from north Germany, encountering a very different musical world. It places him alongside composers such as Monteverdi, Lotti and Caldara, whose Italian styles helped shape his early voice. Dixit Dominus sits at the heart of the programme, reflecting that moment of transition.
Programme

  • Buxtehude – Jesu, meines Lebens Leben
  • Monteverdi – Beatus vir
  • Lotti – Crucifixus (a 8)
  • Monteverdi – Cantate Domino; Adoramus te
  • Caldara – Crucifixus (a 16)
  • Handel – Dixit Dominus

Agenda:

  • 5.45pm: We will meet outside the church
  • 6pm: music performance starts.
