Join us for an exciting journey through 30,000 years of history at Museum Stillfried – The Centre of Prehistoric Times
Based on the huge interest in this unique workshop before the summertime we decided to bring it back with minor changes. To ensure there will be new elements for theses who already attended. During our workshop we invite you to get your hands on archaeologic finds that are several thousand years old while learning some archaeological basics (numbering archeological finds, photographical documentation) and supporting the museum to progress with their scientific work.
"They're numbering our 3600-year-old rubbish!" - At least that's how you could see it from the point of view of the Early Bronze Age people who lived here around 1600 BC. For us, rubbish are important traces for reconstructing life at that time.
The archaeological finds range from stone tools and jewellery from reindeer hunters of the late Ice Age around 30,000 BC to late medieval graphite ware. We will mostly deal with ceramic shards from the location “Buhuberg”, north of Stillfried museum.
If weather permits the workshop will be held outdoors in the museum´s garden. Food and beverages will be provided by the museum to enhance our “group experience”.
The workshop and the visit of the museum is offered to us for free, but donations to support the museum are more than welcome. We du do suggest a minimum donation of EUR 15 to the museum for food, bevarages, workshop and guided tour.
The museum is labelled as “queer friendly”, “children friendly” accessible for disabled people and managed by a woman.
If time permits, we might finish off our workshop at a local “Heurigen” near by.
