LGBTQ+ Heroes of Ancient Greece

Details

In this cultural Zoom tour, Professor Andrew Lear, one of the top world experts on sexuality in the Classical world, will share the LGBTQ stories in the legends and history of Classical sexuality in Greece and Italy.
The list of sexuality-fluid gods and historical figures that had LGBTQ relationships is a who's who of the ancient world:

  • Zeus, the king of the gods
  • Herakles, the greatest hero
  • Sappho, the greatest lyric poet
  • Socrates, the founder of philosophy
  • Alexander the Great, who conquered the known world
  • Virgil, the epic poet, and
  • Roman Emperor, Hadrian, who turned his deceased lover into a god that continued to be worshiped for hundreds of years after his death.

You've probably heard about some of this, but have you ever wondered what it all means? How did the Greeks and Romans see and experience sexuality?
