Arthur’s Rock, is a 6,780-foot granite outcrop and one of the most recognizable landmarks in Lory State Park, located just west of Fort Collins. From the summit, hikers are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of Horsetooth Reservoir, the Front Range, and the Great Plains.

### Hiking to the Summit

Arthur’s Rock Trail is a moderately challenging hike known for its steady ascent and scenic variety.

  • Distance & Time: About 3.4–3.5 miles round trip, typically completed in 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Approximately 1,100 feet
  • Terrain: The trail passes through open meadows and ponderosa pine forests, finishing with a short rock scramble and natural “stairway” to the top
  • Difficulty: Rated moderate, though the incline and altitude can make it feel more strenuous. It’s generally considered easier than Horsetooth Rock

### Visitor Essentials

  • Park Fees: Lory State Park charges a daily entrance fee (around $10 per vehicle), unless you have a Colorado State Parks annual pass. We can set a predetermned place to meet and car pool into the park.
