**The Plan:**
Weather permitting, this is a beautiful loop on what has been ranked as one of the most beautiful urban circuit paths in the world by Time Magazine.

We will ride the waterfront canal path with a stop to pick up drinks/picnic food at the Atwater Marche and then proceed to a waterfront art picnic on one of Canada's largest outdoor museums/sculpture gardens:

A. **Start-Point** \- Meet with Bikes in the outdoor cafe in front of the IMAX theater building in the Old Port\,

B. **Stop 1** \- Bike to Atwater Marche \(http://www\.marchespublics\-mtl\.com/marches/atwater/\) \- pick up water/coffee/drinks and food for the waterfront picnic later in the ride\,

C. **Stop 2** \- Waterfront Picnic @ One of Canada's Largest Outdoor Sculpture Gardens/Museums\,

D. Then continue following the water trail to Verdun Beach, and end by returning to the starting point at the Old Port

The Lachine Canal’s path opened in 1977, making it one of the oldest such paths in the Montreal. Located in the heart of the bicycle network in the South-West sector of the Island of Montreal, it follows the canal from the Bonaventure Expressway west of the Old Port to Chemin du Musée in Lachine.
This excursion is accessible to all since the route is flat."

The CLOSEST bike rental to the event (they also rent electric bikes) is about a block from starting point, and they have 4 out 5 stars with yelp (42 reviews). Double check, but they offer online reservations (the day before/today) and the bike rentals come with helmet, and lock.

**LENGTH**:
\- It follows the canal for 13\.5 km\, from the Bonaventure Expressway west of the Old Port to Chemin du Musée in Lachine\.
\- Mostly flat route
\- On the return\, you can come back same way or go thru verdun & that route will involve riding on the streets for about 15 minutes to get back to canal\.
