Freud’s Critique of Religion

Details
Freud considered religion a false ideology that, with advances in science, civilization, and education, we need to let go of. He considered religion, a delusion or neurosis. Freud didn’t like the way religion is a structure for social control. He says religion makes us want to feel comfortable with a cosmic father. In our time, the rate of people unaffiliated with a religious body keeps rising, but we still need to find purpose in other areas of life. Freud ‘s analysis is worth taking a look in some depth, which will be the direction or theme of our June meeting
Perhaps to your surprise, our presenter, Ron Geikow, was a Lutheran pastor for 40 years. After much reflection and reevaluation, he now feels most comfortable being a non-theist, - a humanist. Ron still wants to find meaning in family, friends, philosophy, and a critical evaluation and reflection on life’s meaning.
This event is free but donations to help with the rent are appreciated. For those who are interested, we will go to a nearby restaurant for lunch after the discussion.
