🌈 LGBTQ+ Hikers - March Long Hike - Storm King - 9.0 Mile Hike

Details

Details
Overview:
Hey there, hikers! Join 🌈 LGBTQ+ Hikers as we re-start the pace in 2025 with our second extended hike! Weather impacts delayed February, but we're back on track for March! In an effort to meet various hikers’ interests and endurance levels, we’re scheduling both a modest and a lengthy hike each month! Shake off those mid-winter blues with a lengthy, loop hike along Storm King Mountain and North Point! This 9.0-mile loop includes the two notable summits in Storm King State Park!
The Hike Details:
The plan is to complete a 9.0 mile loop trail. This is described as a challenging loop route which starts (and ends) at the Esty & Hellie Stowell Trailhead in Storm King State Park. The trail includes some steep climbs and rock scrambles. All-Trails name: “Storm King Mountain and North Point Summit.” The trailhead starts at the parking lot in Storm King State Park ( 42 Bayview Avenue, Cornwall-On-Hudson, New York, 12520 )
What to Pack:
- Sturdy hiking boots or trail runners
- Layered clothing, including a water-resistant jacket. March weather conditions may be variable. Proper layering (underlayer of moister-wicking fabric, mid-layers of insulation and outer-layer of a weather-proof jacket with a hood will make hiking more comfortable)
- Gloves
- Beanie or insulated head covering
- Plenty of water (I would recommend at least 2 Liters)
- Packed lunch and any snacks
- Hiking poles (recommended, if available)

Getting There:
Car – There is parking in the Esty & Hellie Stowell Trailhead Parking Lot. If you do so, be conscious of designated of potential off-limits zones. Address: 42 Bayview Avenue, Cornwall-On-Hudson, New York, 12520. Link to Metro-North Breakneck Ridge: Trailhead
Rail – NOT RECOMMENDED. If you do not have a vehicle, please directly message me and I can coordinate transportation. I will be driving from NYC (Chelsea area), departing about 9:00 AM on the morning of the hike, and can drive up to 4 passengers. Other participants may be driving as well. If you do decide to take the train, the closest rail connections that I have been able to locate is the Metro North Beacon Station. From Grand Central Station, take the 08:50 AM Metro North Hudson Line (#8811) to Poughkeepsie. Get off at Beacon Station at approximately 10:26, catching an Uber/Lyft/Taxi across the Hudson to Storm King State Park.
