Our Liberal Ladies Bookclub will meet on December 20 at our usual location. Please join us to discuss our December selection: "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows
"A remarkable tale of the island of Guernsey during the German Occupation, and of a society as extraordinary as its name".
“I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.” January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb. . . .
This is a lovely book (and movie; it is currently showing on Netflix).
Our January selection is "News of the World" by Paulett Jiles:
"In the aftermath of the Civil War, an aging itinerant news reader agrees to transport a young captive of the Kiowa back to her people in this exquisitely rendered, morally complex, multilayered novel of historical fiction from the author of Enemy Women that explores the boundaries of family, responsibility, honor, and trust." This is also showing on Amazon Prime.
In Other News: This is an amazing opportunity!
The League of Women Voters has been asked to do voter registration at the Fort Worth showing of the documentary "The Librarians".
