Fifteenth Meetup: Security Without the State – Police, Courts & the Free Market

Join Liberty Labs Toronto for our fifteenth meetup on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 7:00 PM near Yonge and Eglinton!

This month we’re asking a hard question with an open mind: if there were no monopoly on force, what would protection and justice actually look like?
We’ll discuss:

• How private security, insurance, and competing protection agencies might work in practice
• How courts and dispute resolution could function without a state monopoly (arbitration, reputation, restitution)
• Historical and real-world examples of non-state order
• Common objections: “who watches the watchers?”, the poor, violent crime, and “what if the biggest gang wins?”
• The difference between anarchic chaos and a market for law and security

Come ready to think out loud. You don’t have to already believe a free-market justice system would work — you just have to be willing to examine the idea honestly.
