Experience the majesty of the Castle as our cruise takes you to the most FAMOUS of the 1000 Islands.. Heart Island.

Cruising from this area as opposed to Kingston is far more scenic with hundreds of Islands to view.

An eternal monument to the memory of a man's love for his wife.

In 1904, construction was well underway on the 120 room Castle when tragedy struck. A telegram arrived at the Castle announcing the death of George C. Boldt's wife Louise. Three hundred artisans and craftsman were commanded to stop all construction.

A broken hearted Boltd never returned to the Island.

Since then an ongoing major restoration is underway to stabilize and restore this incredible piece of Island History.

THE LENGEND OF 1000 ISLANDS DRESSING

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/5/2/7/600_435977703.jpeg

The origin of 1000 Island Dressing is related to George Boldt, one-time owner of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York and of the Bellevue-Stratford in Philadelphia.

Legend has it that while cruising aboard his yacht amongst the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River, as his steward prepared luncheon, he discovered that some of the ingredients normally used in his dressings were not available.

He prepared a dressing using a variety of ingredients which George Boldt found so pleasing that he decided to have it served in his hotels. It was called 1000 Island Dressing in honor of the beautiful area where it was first prepared. The steward was promoted to work at the Waldorf Astoria and subsequently rose to international fame as Oscar of the Waldorf.

The story of 1000 Island Dressing is inextricably associated with the romance of Boldt Castle the palatial Rhenish structure perched atop Heart Island in the 1000 Islands

See you there for a FABULOUS day trip!

Payment is non refundable but transferable.
