Does dissociative trance disorder explain the age-old belief in demonic possession? Have the ancient stories of possession simply been about misdiagnosed physical or mental illness? Is the devil a myth, created by humans to explain the problem of evil. Let's forgo the debate of origin stories, mythology and personal opinion. As skeptics, we will review the modern-day evidence.

The Diagnostic & Statistical Manual (DSM 5) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD 11) recognize a new mental illness called Dissociative Trance Disorder.
The ICD 11 further distinguishes Possession Trance Disorder with the distinctive feature that the individual’s normal sense of personal identity is replaced by an external ‘possessing’ identity attributed to the influence of a spirit, power, deity or other spiritual entity.

In this meeting we will review expert testimony from psychiatrists who have evaluated patients with this disease. We will also view videos of actual cases and listen to audio recordings as well.
