What we're about

Modelling Safely

Once an academic pursuit in Art Schools and Artists’ studios, life drawing is now well and truly an engaging pastime for one and all. Up until Covid there were many community life drawing groups as well as Pub based evening sessions, and hen’s night drawing events. Covid has shifted that around a bit but its sure to come back. What Covid has given us is a new entry point into life drawing… the Online Studio and its flourishing.

If you are interested in being a model then here’s what you need to know.

Life drawing happens in the above settings. Typically, a community group will meet once a week, either daytime or in the evening and draw for 2/3 hours with a break. Pub sessions are usually 2 hours and liquor is served, so its aligned with ‘entertainment’ but usually well organised. Same with Hen’s nights but there is a tutor on board.

Online potential is exciting and can provide ease of participation for both models and participants. It opens up a many variables in how life drawing can be accomplished and made available to a wider group of enthusiasts. It is a new future for life drawing.

All of the above approaches to life drawing have strict protocols to protect models. So lets’ be clear about what modelling is.

MODELS

It requires you to pose naked in front of a group of persons who are drawing you. This is always in a closed setting. The average group size is around 15 persons. They are usually led by one person who is responsible the group protocols and your wellbeing during the session.

To be a model, you need to be able to hold a pose for periods up to 20 minutes, but often as short as one minute. It is best that you train before you take on modelling. Either with a coach or checking out poses from online sources. You must be ‘available’ with your poses, ie not shy to show your body in a dynamic way, and be open to the fact that you are being gazed at.

It takes a few minutes to get used to this but then it’s OK.

Prior to taking up a gig, the organisers will want to know about your experience and body type. This is because they will be looking to provide a range of differing models for their group. For model specific guidance, visit the group pages.

1. PROMOTING EVENT AND MODEL INCOME

Listing an event with us here on Meetup is free so that organisers, participants and models can get the most out of this community group while we take things to the next step.

To aspiring new models: Our own experience of the scene in Perth and many of the organisers we have spoke to, is of the consensus that it wants to support models that are residents of Perth and want to model as a professional job, earning ongoing income, rather than just doing it once or twice as a traveler or for non-business, personal development reasons. Other organisers may be casual about the way in which they set their expectations with you and similarly you may be with them and similarly, you may prefer to be casual with them. The organisers of this group are of the mind that ambiguous agreements create the opportunity for kind people to get less from the value proposition than they would have if they'd have known the terms of contracting prior, whether its the model's service quality, or timely payment by the organiser. We can also utilise much more of the opportunities being missed when needing model covers, due to lack of reassurance available to organisers about the suitability of models,

We are happy to promote experienced models that are traveling and have an ABN, to other organisers, where that fact is disclosed to the organiser. This isn't a group for bucket-listers I'm afraid.

Organisers can search for and contract with models and book last minute covers by contacting the members directly or by emailing organisers@artistsandposers.com . Members can email lifedrawingperth-list@meetup.com to reach other members with their relevant content.

Organisers can utilise their Meetup dashboard as well as emailing and messaging members directly through the community feed by emailing lifedrawingperth-list@meetup.com .

2. HOW TO PAY AND BOOK

Payment to attend events, is currently paid directly to the organisers (often in cash) at the nominated venue and the scene accommodates for people utilising a drop in rate to pay on arrival, with preference of spots given to those that reserve their spot within the deadline nominated for that event.

We will be aiding the facilitation of booking links for online tickets over the coming 6-months for organisers we work with and a free link shortening service for your artist, model and organiser profiles.

Spots and easels at many events are limited, SO PLEASE RSVP IN ADVANCE here or directly with the organiser to avoid disappointment. We run as a volutary solution, so simply pay the organisers directly.

All model and organiser content is developed, published and managed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, the Privacy Act and each user’s individual wishes with control of link sharing in the users hands.

3) OTHER SUPPORT FOR EVENT ORGANISERS

Please get in contact by email if you wish to widen your exposure by having us list your events on multiple events platforms.

If you would like to get help setting up, managing and running an email database and more structured marketing and listing campaigns for your life drawing events, please email will@artistsandposers.com for a quote or general advice to get you going.

See you at your easel.

Ever tried Life Drawing? (Drawing a nude model in various poses)
Are you close to the Midvale area? If so here's your chance!!

This age old art form is actively making a rival in the experience market and Carolyn offers experience, integrity and compassion in guiding you through what can be a rather daunting and uncomfortably new experience for many. Don't worry, the models are very professional and this event is a great way to step out of your comfort zone and forget about your busy life for 3 hours.

Practice and perfect your artist skills and get exposure to a variety of male and female models, trained to tailor to and challenge your eye for proportions, detail and your creative interpretation of what you see in the world. You won't be alone in this public group event.

Your safety and the comfort and safety of the models is of highest priority to protect the sacred integrity that the models offer to you for 3 hours as an established or aspiring artist.

Spots are limited so please RSVP here or and then ring through to Carolyn to check availability so that you can comfortably take a spot with an easel or board. Share-link for anyone you may want to attend with is: www.yogiurls.com/art

Art is one of the most intriguing ways to witness the artists ego at play, with a chance for you to be kind to yourself as you allow your creative energy to flow in a non-judging way. If you understand the metaphysical nature of the universe, you may also be aware of the notion that your outside world and perspective is a message from you and we encourage you to sit with your creations and allow time to understand them with compassion for yourself. You are not 'shit' at drawing (we hear this all the time from students). You are the all seeing, all creating transfigurers of the unknown and your participation is welcome.

Be among people who genuinely care about assisting you on your artistic journey and have some fun doing something you love or something new if you've never done it before.

Carolyn is a fantastic art tutor and host, offering Tea, coffee & nibbles during the break.

Please BYO your own drawing stuff to avoid disappointment. Payment is made in cash directly to Carolyn and all inquiries should be directed (preferable via phone call) to Carolyn who can help you with any queries you may have. [masked]
