Music is one of the most powerful things humans ever invented - or perhaps discovered? A sequence of invisible vibrations somehow becomes emotion, memory, identity, belonging. We don’t simply listen to music - we recognize ourselves in it.

Yet music is more than a personal experience. Across cultures and history, it has shaped rituals, bonded communities, signaled belonging, expressed rebellion, and even raised fascinating evolutionary questions.

Let’s playfully explore music not just as art or entertainment, but as a psychological and deeply personal experience — and reflect on questions such as:

  • What does music mean to you?
  • Why would evolution “allow” or favor music?
  • Why does certain music feel like “me”?
  • Why do musical tastes cluster socially? How does music define “us” vs “them”?
  • What role does silence play in our experience of music?
  • Can birdsong or the rustling of leaves be considered music? Is there music in nature - or only sound and language?
  • Where does music “exist”? In the sound? The brain? The culture?
  • Could an intelligent species evolve without music?

Playful experiment
Feel free to bring one song that means something to you (not a must - optional), or sing/play a song. A song tied to a memory, a feeling, a person, a phase of life, or something you can’t quite explain. The interesting part happens while we share and listen together ...

Looking forward to an inspiring and light-hearted conversation on music :-)

🌿 Community Guidelines

  • Only attend if you’re on the attendee list.
  • Listen actively and with curiosity, without interrupting.
  • Engage with ideas, not individuals. We’re here to explore, learn and share, not to argue.
  • Stay present - phones away, attention in the room with physical people.
  • Avoid no-shows and last-minute dropouts - they take a spot from someone else. If this happens, please get in touch, otherwise you’ll be removed from the next meetup. If repeated, you may be removed from the group.
  • Please note that the attendee list may be adjusted to accommodate new members or when participants were flagged as late drop-outs or no-shows.
  • Photos will be taken during the event to share highlights and help grow our community. If you’d rather not be in any photos, just let us know in writing before the event - we’ll gladly respect that.
