DESCRIPTION: Let’s get in a quick hike to the boulder field and the balanced rock in Pawtuckaway State Park while the weather is still pretty decent. The boulder field is an area in Pawtuckaway that is littered with very impressive glacial erratics - boulders that were transported from elsewhere by glaciers, then deposited as the glaciers melted. We’ll meet at the parking lot for the NORTH ENTRANCE (Round Pond Road) - see map in the featured photo. DO NOT TAKE RESERVATION ROAD. (see map in photos)
From the parking lot, we’ll hike past the gate down Round Pond Road into the park and to the Boulder Trail. After we spend some time exploring the boulder field, we’ll start heading back but stop for lunch at the balanced rock, then return to the parking lot. So pack a lunch and a spirit of adventure.
TOTAL MILES: 3.5 - 4.0
ELEVATION GAIN - 328 feet
AllTrails description: "This easygoing route leads visitors to a boulder field in Pawtuckaway State Park. It's downhill on the way there, so save some energy for the uphill return leg. Parts of the trail can be slippery, with wet slabs of rock and damp leaves. Wear shoes with good traction. Bring microspikes if you're here during winter as the trail can get very icy. The trail begins at the Boulder Trail Parking Lot on Round Pond Road."
