A 90-mile section of California's scenic Highway 1 near Big Sur finally reopens after 3 years of closures following landslides and roadway collapse. So... Let's Ride!

Please read this entire ride description and “Skill Level” requirements before signing up for this event.

We will start taking Highway 1 at San Luis Obispo and all the way up to Monterey, California. This is an iconic, breathtaking coastal ride along the Pacific with highlights like the rugged Big Sur cliffs, dramatic Bixby Bridge, and redwood forests. We will have lunch on the water in Morro Bay. We will stop at the Elephant Seal viewing area. We will go to the historic Cannery Row of Monterey Bay with shops and restaurants. This stop is only 19 miles from our final hotel stop in Salinas for the night. The next morning, we head back to Highway 1 for the return trip along the coast for even better ocean views going North-to-South. We will stop at the Bixby Bridge Vista Point for a picture in addition to the McWay Falls overlook. The McWay Falls is an 80-foot waterfall that drops onto the beach and flows year-round into the ocean.

Total round trip is about 800 miles. You must be able to go 150 miles between gas stops. If you’re ready to have some fun, please join us. First step is to RSVP and make your hotel reservation. But please only RSVP if you are intending to go, so we can have an accurate headcount.

Regarding the hotel... You will need to book your own room. Bill and I are staying at the following hotel:

Hotel in Salinas, CA: Laurel Inn
check-in: Saturday, July 11;

This should be a really fun trip!

SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate to Advanced Riders ONLY due to the technical nature of the twisty roads on Highway 1.

Sweep will assist in emergencies and breakdowns but will not wait for stragglers. We will not have a chase van or trailer, so you need to have your bike in tip-top condition with AAA tow service paid up.

For your safety and that of the group, we require that you show up with a DOT-approved helmet, full tank of gas, and tires in good condition.
