Memorial Weekend Ride, 4 days/3 nights
Details
This 4-day ride will take us by Joshua Tree, Parker Arizona where we will continue through some desert roads parallel to the I-10 before heading north and some mountains roads before pulling into Prescott for night 1. As we prepare for KSU on day 2 we will head through some picturesque roads as we pass through Jerome, an old copper-mining town nestled in the central Arizona mountains. We will continue north towards the beautiful red rocks of Sedona on 89-A. As we continue north on 89-A we will be traveling through Oak Creek Canyon and enjoy the mountain pass and twisties before rolling pass Flagstaff. We are now heading towards our day 2 destination and Monument Valley, which was made famous by Forrest Gump where he stops running and say’s “I’m pretty tired… I think I’ll go home now.” We will stop here for some re-enactments, pictures before hitting the final 8-mile leg to Mexican-Hat in Utah. Mexican Hat sits along the San Juan River and to show how small it is, Census last recorded a population of 31 people. We may double the population for one night.
As we get ready for day 3, I warn all to don’t even bother dusting off your motorcycle but clean your visor as we head North through the Moki Dugway (click here) and watch video here moki dugway motorcycle - YouTube “Valley of Gods” The Moki Dugway is a 3-mile long, unpaved road with steep switchbacks (11% grade) that was carved into the face of a cliff on Cedar Mesa. Moki Dugway has a 1,200 foot rise in elevation as it winds its way from near Valley of the Gods to the top of Cedar Mesa. It provides stunning views of some of Utah’s most beautiful scenery, including the Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley.
Once back on paved roads, we will plan to stop at National Bridges Monument for a quick break before a few long legs of the ride to our final night in Mesquite, Nevada.
Please read this entire ride description and “skill level” requirement before signing up for this event.
Quick overview:
We will minimize interstates except for day 1 as we head towards Joshua Tree and our ride home on the I-15 from Mesquite. Longest stretch for a day would be 428 miles on day 3, approximately 8-hour seat time or longer with stops. Gas stops every 100 to 150 miles, if your bike can’t make it, you must bring a jerry gas can with you. Some hotels have pools and/or rivers edge, so bring swimming trunks.
