About us
THE REVOLUTION WILL BE WELL-READ.
Inspired by Malcolm X's account in The Autobiography of Malcolm X of reading for hours in prison by the faint "lights-out glow" seeping into his cell, Lights-Out Glow was born out of a belief in the power of reading, self-education, questioning the world around us. Because knowledge has a way of illuminating what those in power would rather leave in the dark.
This is a political book club for the curious, the critical, the restless and the occasionally inconvenient.
We'll read books that challenge dominant narratives, interrogate systems of power and explore the histories, ideas and movements that have shaped our world. Think politics, radical history, capitalism, labor, race, colonialism, feminism, religion, media, social movements, banned and challenged books, revolutionary literature and everything in between.
Expect a mix of political theory, memoirs, historical accounts, essays, fiction and perspectives that don't always make it into mainstream conversations.
This isn't about collecting intellectual credentials, agreeing on everything or pretending to have all the answers. It's about reading critically, asking uncomfortable questions, challenging our own assumptions and having conversations that extend beyond the pages.
No academic background required. No reading list prerequisites. Just bring an open mind, a healthy skepticism and a willingness to think.
Read dangerously. Question relentlessly. Stay curious.
Because the revolution will be well-read.
