Two festivals, one table
On Saturday 07.11.2026 the LiLi Centre is hosting an Indian dinner on the eve of Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas. Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists, and marks light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. For Sikhs the same day is Bandi Chhor Divas, the Day of Liberation. It remembers Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru, walking out of imprisonment at Gwalior Fort in the early 1600s and refusing to go unless the 52 princes held alongside him were freed too. He reached Amritsar to find the city lit with lamps.

Our host is Golden India. Owner Gurjinder Singh managed an Indian restaurant here in Luzern before going out on his own, and after opening Golden India across Switzerland, from Zermatt and Grindelwald to Zurich and Lausanne, he brought it home this summer to the Grand Hotel National on Haldenstrasse. The menu is still being finalized and will include both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
