Agenda
19:30 – Introduction by the Limassol & Paris WiMLDS team

19:40 – “Bayesian Probabilistic Modelling for Social Interaction Data” by Xenia Miscouridou, Research Associate, Department of Mathematics, Imperial College London
Abstract : Bayesian statistics and machine learning have shown great advances over the last few years providing us with powerful approaches to model data generating mechanisms and quantify the uncertainty therein. Probabilistic models with bayesian nonparametric assumptions have been used in many applications such as density estimation, clustering, latent feature models and survival analysis. In this talk I will focus on probabilistic modelling for interactions between pairs of individuals in social networks. The suggested class of models is based on point processes and focuses upon the property of reciprocation, meaning that interactions arise as responses to recent opposite interactions.
Biography : Xenia is a Research Associate at Imperial College London in the Statistics Section of the Department of Mathematics. She has worked for AIG as a Machine Learning Scientist developing AI models for insurance and investment. She holds a PhD in Statistical Machine Learning from the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford supervised by Francois Caron and Yee Whye Teh. During her PhD, she has been a Research Visitor at the Alan Turing Institute in London, at the Courant Institute at NYU and a Data Science intern at Google Zurich. She previously completed the Part III of the Mathematical Tripos at the University of Cambridge and a BSc in Mathematics from Imperial College London.
20:10 – “Named Entity Recognition (NER) from a business point of view : coupling a rule-based approach with Machine Learning algorithms” by Sotiria Bampatzani, NLP Data Engineer @ QWAM Content Intelligence
Abstract: Data annotation is a time-consuming and often tedious task, but essential in order to build efficient and smart algorithms. This talk focuses on how Named Entity Recognition, traditionally based on annotation rules and ontologies, can be coupled with Machine Learning in the business world, where resources are generally limited and costly.
20:40 - Quick interactive session

During the event, you can share content using #WiMLDSParis, @WiMLDS_Paris & @WiMLDS_Limassol
After the meet-up, all the slides will be available on the Paris WiMLDS Medium page : https://medium.com/@WiMLDS_Paris
