Horncastle Scrivelsby and Mareham on the Hill Circular
Horncastle, GBThis 8.5 mile walk starts in the market place in the centre of Horncastle, a town which lies on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and is now a centre for the antiques trade.
We follow the Viking Way South along the canal out of town then on to the disused railway track and past some interesting metalwork sculptures. Leaving the Viking Way we make tracks through Scrivelsby Park past grazing deer to Mareham on the Hill where we will stop at the quaint little church for a short break (they may or may not be serving tea and cakes!). On then to High Toynton , Low Toynton and back into Horncastle via the Viking Way.
Once out of the town, the walk takes in a canal tow path, gently undulating field tracks, good paths, and quiet lanes. Please note we do need to cross the busy A153 twice during the walk.
There is free car parking at The Cattle Market car park, The Wong, Horncastle LN9 6EB, a short walk from our start point.
I have booked a table for Sunday lunch in the pet friendly area at Home - Admiral Rodney Hotel, Horncastle. Please let me know in the comments if you wish to stay for lunch.
