Details
Derbyshire day trip.
Join us for the lovely walk along the Cromford canal then climb Crich stand. Returning to Cromford through Bow wood. The first 3 miles is flat along the canal towpath with beautiful scenery and wildlife and remains of the Victorian industrial past at the side of the canal. We then leave the towpath at Whatstandwell train station and climb up to Crich passing the Tramway museum. There is the memorial tower and trig point at the top. We will stop here for a lunch break then start the steady down hill loop back to Cromford via Bow wood and along the river Derwent finishing at Arkwrights Mills. There are 3 pay and display car parks near the start and toilets and cafe at the Mills. This walk is 9 miles and will take around 5 hours with a few stops for drinks and snacks. Please bring a packed lunch and drinks. Meet at the Canal Wharf for a 10am start.
There are a few wall gaps to squeeze through and a couple of stiles near the end. If it is very hot on the day there is a shorter flatter route but does not include going to the tower.
Please arrange car sharing with friends. All day parking is £7 or £8 depending on which one you get in.
£1 subs please.
